After lunch, I had home economics. Today, the only thing we did was listen to our teacher drone on about how making good grades is important, as usual. Luckily, I sat next to Charlotte, so I wasn't bored. Kate wasn't in this class.
Charlotte passed me a note under the table. I grabbed it and read it in my lap.
'Who do you think the note author is?'
I took my pencil out of my pocket and wrote back:
'It could be Jake, Adam, Carlos, Chris, Eric, or Bradley.' I had memorized the list.
I passed the note back under the table. I pretended to look at the teacher and be interested while Charlotte wrote back. Suddenly, I was jabbed with the corner of the paper, which was Charlotte's way of telling me to take the note. I grabbed it and read the sloppy handwriting:
'I think it was Jake.'
I looked at her and mouthed "Why?"
She took the note back, scribbled something down, and gave it back.
'Didn't you see? He was staring at you while in lala land in first period.'
I wrote back:
'thanks for the intell.'

After school, I opened my locker, and was disappointed when a note didn't fall the ground. I got my books, closed my locker, locked it, and sat on the ground, burying my head in my hands. Jake rushed by and waved at me on the way. "Hey Ash!" he called.
I waved back in reply.
He was so busy looking at me that he bumped into Adam.
"Klutz." Adam rolled his eyes.
Jake just shrugged in reply and ran on. Adam came and sat down next to me.
"What happened with the notes this time?" Adam asked.
"They told me that they don't have black hair or freckles." I told him.
"Hm." Adam shrugged. "Did you get a note a few minutes ago?"
"No." I said. I tried to hide my sadness, but obviously didn't do a very good job because Adam gave me a sympathetic look.
"Look, if you ever need any advice, just come to me." Adam said, looking me in the eyes. "Or Andy."
Adam and Andy were good friends. They would hang out at my birthday parties.
"Thanks Adam." I smiled.
Once again, a small beep came from his pocket. He took out his phone and read a text he had gotten.
"Gotta bolt, Ash. See ya tomorrow."
"Bye." I waved as he walked off.
What was this I was feeling? I had butterflies in my stomach, I felt nervous, my palms were sweating...'Oh no.' I thought. 'No...please no." Then I realized it was true.
I had a crush on Adam.
